I R smart Friday, Oct 31 2008

I am a union sheet metal worker. currently a 1st year apprentice. every year the apprentice schools have competitions in HVAC, Service, Test And Balance, Industrial, and the one I went for, Architectural. all 4 apprentice years take the same exam depending on what field they are going for. Architectural had 1-4th year, 3-3rd years, I believe 2- second years and 4-1st years. it is broken into 3 sections, written, plans & specs reading, and a project, this year it was a gutter miter. the top person from each field goes to regionals in January.

last night in welding class I asked the instructor what my score was. later he came back after he tallied up all of the scores and told me “pack your bags, your going to Cleveland”…….(80) aaaaahhhhh! I beat out everyonein my local, the closest was a third year I beat him by 2 points. I was pumped up by the end of the project building I was almost bouncing off the walls, LOL. I just love building stuff. Now I have to study the two books, about 3 inches thick each. and practice things like joint soldering for January

the following are pictures of my winning project. bear in mind I had not previously made one of these, they are a 3rd year project.

my project. I had to lay it out from a blank piece of metal. it is held together with pop rivets

this is a sketch similar to the one I was given, other then the measurements are missing.

and this was the profile the gutter had to fit to when done

finger pics Sunday, Oct 12 2008

took some more pictures of my finger tonight. i am going to see the doctor tomorrow and see what his exam concludes. other then the nail is off , a little unhealthy tissue is still there and it is still swollen. it looks like i will make out alright, yay.

saw 2…lol Sunday, Oct 5 2008

an update on my finger, not a reference to the movie.

they took the stitches out and peeled off the callous dead skin that they used a a bio-patch and trimmed some of the dead/unhealthy tissue from the tip last thursday. it was so wierd because I expected some pain and there was none. but as I looked at it tonight it looks like the majority of it will survive, yay. what still looks unhealthy seems to be further out on my finger tip than my finger should stop at. i compared it to my other hand. the wierd thing is the nail is completely detatched from the skin underneath. only the skin on top at the base is all that holds it now. it is kinda cool in a sick way I guess.  will post more pics for the morbid curiosity that y’all swear you don’t have, lol.
