today I helped My parents pour a large ceramic mold of a violet pot. the liquid form of poured ceramics is “slip”. the large mould requires almost 2 gallons of slip to fill the mould and the second part of the violet pot takes about 1.5 gallons so they can get to be very heavy. most of the slip is poured back out of the mold after the required thickness is achieved around the inside of the mold. which can be resused again and again. it is a fun hobbie I have grown up doing with my family. later this year we will be trying porcelain, woot.
I’ll take some pictures of the whole ceramic process and post them here so you can get a better idea of what I am talking about.
